2021 76th Annual Conference

WED02 - Resolving Compliance Issues with the IRS in a Remote Working Environment

Oct 27, 2021 8:30am ‐ Oct 27, 2021 9:30am

Description

Like all of us, the Internal Revenue Service has experienced a variety of pandemic-related disruptions, and, in some instances, these disruptions have created significant challenges in its interactions with taxpayers. TEI members facing such challenges have assembled a team of leading tax practitioners to discuss new pressure points and work-arounds when dealing with the IRS in this new normal. Panelists will address: (1) the challenges faced by the IRS and taxpayers in communicating in a remote work environment; (2) best practices for interacting with the IRS in a virtual environment, including the use of the IRS's Taxpayer Digital Communications (TDC) platform, video conferencing, and virtual reading rooms; and (3) expectations for the future as both the IRS and taxpayers develop hybrid work models.

At the conclusion of this session, participants should:

  • Have a more informed understanding of challenges faced by the IRS in communicating in a remote work environment and how this relates to their interactions with the IRS
  • Understand and be able to apply to their situation best practices for interacting with the IRS in a virtual environment, including the use of the IRS's Taxpayer Digital Communications platform, video conferencing, and virtual reading rooms
  • Understand expectations for the future as both the IRS and taxpayers develop hybrid work models

Moderator(s):
